Born in the village of roses, Mooi River – KZN Midlands, on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, Dominic grew up  in the Mahobe Parish in the Umzimkhulu Diocese.

 He started school at Bhisi Township in Umzimkhulu and matriculated at Mt. Hargreaves High School in Matatiele. After qualifying as a teacher at Cicira College in Mthatha, he taught in a number of different schools before being appointed as Principal of Clydesdale Junior Secondary school and Technical College.

A proponent of life-long learning, Dominic has studied at VISTA University, UNISA, Wits University and St. Augustine College.  He has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He has shared his knowledge and experience through participation in a number of conferences, colloqiums and winter school sessions run by the Durban Archdiocese, and participated in the 2004 and 2019 South African Catholic Schools Congresses. In addition, he has served as a member of the KZN Christian Council network for Religion in Education.

Dominic has worked for the KZN Catholic Schools Office since its inception, having been employed by the Catholic Institute of Education in 1999. He has facilitated programmes and workshops in the fields of Numeracy and Literacy, Pastoral Care, Religious Education and Educational Leadership as well as working with officials from different Government Departments.

He is always been involved in community work, and the area around Umzimkhulu has especially benefitted from his involvement. He is the official biographer of the late Rt. Reverend Lenford Themba Thobela who lived and brought Jesus’ healing to many ravaged individuals and families in and around Umzimkhulu.

Passionate about the preservation of indigenous knowledge, Dominic has published articles in UmAfrika and the CIE Catholic Education magazine.

When not involved in the work of the CSO or in his family and community, Dominic enjoys gardening, art collecting and listening to music.
